Christmas Caravanning Getaways
Christmas is a time to take off in your Winjana 5th Wheeler caravan and make the most of Australia’s wonderful outdoors. Although this is the busiest time of year, there are still some great places to visit that will not be overrun with tourists! To help you plan your caravanning holiday, here are our top 3 destinations to escape the crowds this Christmas:
1. Relax and Unwind at Eildon Pondage
An ideal caravanning spot for families, visit Eildon Pondage this Christmas to experience the natural beauty of the Victorian high country. As well as the perfect location, the best part about this distinction is the endless activities that are on offer including fishing, mountain biking, riding, boating, horse riding, hiking and tennis. Nestled amongst bushland and mountains, park your 5th wheeler at the Eildon Pondage Holiday Park which is conveniently located close to town, right on the waterfront with a range of facilities and space to ensure you have comfortable caravanning holiday. The lake is an easy 2 hour drive north-east from Melbourne, suitable for all Winjana 5th Wheelers.
2. Wander in the Wilderness of Bunya Mountains
200km North-West of Brisbane are the Bunya Mountains – a rainforest sanctuary that blossoms in Summer. With spectacular views and walking trails, this Christmas destination is for travellers who want to explore and get amongst the wilderness of Queensland’s second oldest national park formed around 30 years ago. The main features of the park include the largest natural bunya pine forest in the world and natural grassland ‘balds’ that are home to an abundance of wildlife. Even during Summer the night can get quite cool so make sure you pack warm clothing. The winding roads are not recommended for large caravans so either take a smaller 5th wheeler or camp on the mountains. During Christmas, ranger-led walks, campfire programs and children’s activities are offered – details of these can be found at the park.
3. Discover the History and Entertainment in Albury-Wodonga
Either side of the Murray River are the twin cities of Albury and Wodonga where you can enjoy a peaceful Christmas beside the broad banks. Albury is located north of the river in New South Wales whilst Wodonga is south in Victoria. The area is known for its mix of heritage charm with contemporary developments offering historical buildings, cultural events, vibrant shopping precincts, theatre, magnificent parklands and botanical gardens. Caravan and camping sites are located on the shores of the river offering an ideal spot for swimming to keep cool during Summer.
